International and locally collected artist, Dan Robbins, can’t remember the exact day when he wanted to become an artist, but by the age of five, it was developing.
Being the oldest of seven children living in a small apartment, it was hard to find any peace or quiet, but as early as 10, he could escape for hours if he had just a single pencil. It wasn’t until age 25, however, that he started to seriously study art. The next 15 years he spent most of his off-work hours trying out all sorts of art mediums. He especially enjoyed painting with acrylics, watercolors and oils.
Most of Dan’s formal training came from the vast amount of art books available, the many fellow artists he has met, along with many hours of painting and drawing studies.
At age 40 he made the decision to quit his regular job so he could devote all his time to art. It’s now been 15 years since then with many challenges along the way. But one thing has never changed, he can still escape for hours with a single pencil and he can’t wait to start his next painting.
Dan currently resides in Shelbyville, Indiana where he continues to pursue his passion for art as well as teach drawing and painting to more than 20 students.
