Nathaniel S. Chase attended University of Indianapolis from 2000-2002 for general fine arts and explored many obstacles in his learning. Later, he joined IUPUI/Herron School of Arts from 2002-2004 in which he attained the skills to create multi-media arts through various subjects and techniques. He is a member of IDADA (Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association) and the Southside Art League.
The early stages of his learning process was spent focusing on how to satisfy the audience as a whole, and in the mean time stepping up to a bigger challenge, which was to design and recreate objects as he saw them, and not creating what the audience wants to see. “There needs to be a representation of something in your artwork, but not realistically portrayed. If someone is recreating a photograph then it is not the same as recreating what is in your mind or a mental projection. Real art comes from the heart and it can also be created with photographs, but a mental projection is sometimes easier to do with a paintbrush. I love photography, but it is different than hands on creating. I use photos at times to have an image to go by, but I try not to keep it too real! I do have paintings that are somewhat realistic, but they all have a certain personality, and the personality is what makes something great! Without personality, the hard work is useless!”
